Visited on 7/5/18 during a long weekend trip to Lake Tahoe to watch the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration and for a long weekend of High Sierra camping with Jeff and our dogs, Summer and Skye. We centrally located ourselves for the weekend at the Lodgepole campground at Lake Valley Reservoir near Cisco Grove, CA. The lake, located at an elevation of 5,840 feet in a forested mountain setting, has a 300-acre surface area and is about 2 miles long. Tall lodgepole pine trees and granite rocks surround the reservoir. What a beauty of a lake, we will definitely make this one of our fairly close to home favorite lakes to visit and camp.
Lake Valley Reservoir, 2 miles long, is located in a beautiful forested setting and offering some terrific Sierra outdoor recreation for all ages, with camping, boating and great fishing. Lake Valley Reservoir in Placer County is a component of Pacific Gas & Electric’s Drum Spaulding Hydropower Project. Lake Valley Reservoir is nestled on the North Fork of the American River near Yuba Gap and the Emigrant trail. There is quick and easy access from Interstate 80. The long, somewhat narrow shape is great for flatwater paddling. PG&E maintains a great campground near the Lake and we camped at their campground in camp site #3 for several nights and utilized it as base camp during our stay. Nice camp and the camping spot across from us left their food items out and we had four to five black bears visit during the night on evening. We had a big bear print that the critter left trying to get the dog food we placed in the bear box.
We found this fantastic camping spot in this P G & E managed campground. Camp spot #3 is a first come first serve spot, located along the creek and it has a huge granite rock backdrop with plenty of space of room.
