Blue Lake - Nevada County, California

Visited on 7/5/18 during a long weekend trip to Lake Tahoe to watch the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration and for a long weekend of High Sierra camping with Jeff and our dogs, Summer and Skye.  We centrally located ourselves for the weekend at the Lodgepole campground at Lake Valley Reservoir near Cisco Grove, CA.  Blue Lake is definitely very blue and located northeast of Rucker Lake on a very rough road.  This is a small beautiful 61 acre reservoir located at 6,000 feet above sea level.  The dogs enjoyed a little hike from the parking spot at the end of the road across the creek and up to the lake.  Once we got there, Jeff decided to take a swim in the cool water and the dogs fetched a stick together.  Very remote and we could see only one tent of backpackers that had made camp at primitive camping area on the east side of the lake.  Blue Lake is one of the most striking lakes in Nevada County. The vibrant blue water provides the perfect retreat for kayakers who have braved the rugged,  pot-hole dirt road that leads to the lake.   It is one of the premier kayaking and  canoe spots in Northern California. This is due to its pristine beauty and remote access. High clearance vehicles are advisable to reach this amazing paddling getaway. If you can tear your eyes away from the road, the view will take your breath away.

This high elevation mountain lake is located in a wilderness wonderland. There is a cluster of small  lakes, north of Lake Spaulding. The unique topographical features of the rugged shoreline and majestic mountains provide captivating views while paddling.
