Sterling Lake - Nevada County, California

Visited on 7/5/18 during a long weekend trip to Lake Tahoe to watch the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration and for a long weekend of High Sierra camping with Jeff and our dogs, Summer and Skye.  We centrally located ourselves for the weekend at the Lodgepole campground at Lake Valley Reservoir near Cisco Grove, CA.  We took a morning trip up to an elevation of 6,995 feet to visit this beautiful little 100 acre lake with a great peaceful setting. There is a great six site primitive campground located along the south lake shore.  On the day we visited there were a few families utilizing the picnic tables for a couple of the sites enjoying a picnic lunch lakeside.  We positioned ourselves for a half hour at camp site #4 and played fetch the stick in the lake game with our dogs.  A few kayakers were on the lake and a nice couple were preparing for a weekend of backpacking in the high country.  The road is gravel and a little rough.  Natural loveliness surrounds this primitive campground. I believe that some folks use Sterling Lake Campground as a campground as a base while enjoying the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Primitive campgrounds such as this one may be tough to get to, but they are pretty. When you go for a weekend of camping at a primitive campground such as Sterling Lake Campground you're in fact camping.  This lake is one on my list of places I would like to kayak and explore.
