Lake of the Woods - El Dorado County, California

Visited on 7/2/2017 – Jeff and I took the dogs in the Jeep with the top off on an all-day hike to the Echo Lakes area and into the Desolation Wilderness to visit several lakes that day.  During a solo hike, getting a little lost in the Wilderness I did come up on Lake of the Woods.  This glacial lake is located 10 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, at elevation 8,048 feet above sea level.  It lies just southeast of Lake Aloha.  I had to trek through lots of snow to get to this 35 acre lake and it was covered in ice and snow from the heavy snow pack.  It was a picture perfect beautiful summer day, not a cloud in the sky and a high of 81 degrees.
