Visited on 7/2/2017 – Lake
Aloha was a much longer hike back in to Desolation Wilderness from where I left
Jeff and the dogs near Tamarack Lake for the afternoon. During my solo hike, getting a little lost, I
did come across Lake Aloha. You would
think that in July it would at least be partially melted, but it resembled more
of a snowy meadow than a Lake. This
glacial lake is 627 acres located 10 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe in
El Dorado County, at elevation 8,144 feet above sea level. It lies just northwest of Echo Lakes.
I had to trek through lots of snow to get to the Lake and it was covered in ice
and snow from the heavy snow pack from 2016-17 season. It was a picture perfect beautiful summer
day, not a cloud in the sky and a high of 81 degrees.
This is not a picture
that I took of the Lake, but this is what it looks like looking from the north end of the lake looking south when the snow and ice
pack melts.
